He has given this concept in the 13th century. He has used this term in the political sense for the land under the Delhi Sultanate.
The Mughal Emperor, Babur on the other hand, described Hindustan as the geography, the fauna and the culture of the inhabitants of the subcontinent. He has given this concept of Hindustan in the 16th century. Amir Khusrau used the term Hind in a similar way.
But today, we refer to Hindustan as our country, the modern nation-state.
